St. David’s Community Health Foundation handed out grants totaling $1.3 million to nonprofits that provide mental health services for Central Texas residents.

The foundation is the philanthropic arm of the St. David’s HealthCare Partnership.

The grants went to: Any Baby Can, Austin Child Guidance Center, Austin Recovery, Breakthrough, Capital Area Mental Health Center, Communities in Schools, Family Crisis Center, FamilyConnections, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center and the Interagency Support Center of East Williamson County.

Also receiving grants: Leander Independent School District, the Lone Star Circle of Care, People’s Community Clinic, SafePlace, Samaritan Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care, the SIMS Foundation and Waterloo Counseling.

“By supporting the work of these 17 agencies in the Central Texas region, the foundation is committed to increasing the availability of professional and affordable mental health services for children and adults in our community,” said Becky Pastner, program officer for the foundation.

Re/Max Austin’s donation benefits children’s hospital

Re/Max Austin Associates raised $11,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network by making a donation for every home sold in May.

The money will go to the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, which opened this week at the former Mueller Airport site.

Austin-area Re/Max offices raised $58,607 for the hospital, and were recognized as the third-highest corporate sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network locally this year.

The network, based in Salt Lake City, raises money and distributes it to 170 member children’s hospitals across the country each year.

Mazda dealers provide car

for animal shelter raffle

The Austin Area Mazda Auto Dealers and Mazda South donated a 2007 Mazda CX-7 for a raffle by the Austin Humane Society, which raised $73,000 selling tickets for the car.

The Humane Society used the money to hire a full-time veterinarian for its shelter.
